The easy35 v2 35mm Sprocket Film Holder is a specialized replacement holder that allows photographers to scan beyond the standard image area. By utilizing a larger gate dimension, it reveals a portion of the film's sprockets and edge markings, providing a unique aesthetic for your digital conversions.

Functionality:

  • The easy35 v2 Holders feature improvements including a 5-point spring-loaded ball-bearing film holder system, ensuring consistent parallelism and faster holder changes.
  • Double-S Curve: Bends the film slightly on both sides of the gate to force the negative flat, solving the common "curl" issues found in film.
  • Pull-Through Design: Allowing for a fast and seamless workflow.
  • Gate Size: 40x33mm
  • Full Frame Capture: Oversized gate exposes the film from edge to edge.
  • Note: Scanning with visible sprockets introduces significant light into the lens; high-performance lenses with excellent flare control are recommended for best contrast.

Compatibility:

easy35 v2 holders work with the easy35 v2 system and are not backward compatible with the original easy35 system. Simply swap it with your current easy35 v2 holder. Compatible with all easy35 v2 units, but not with the VALOI studio360 system, easy120 or easy35 v1 units.

What do I need to scan my film with VALOI?

  • A digital camera with an interchangeable lens system.
  • A macro lens.
  • For negative films a RAW image processing software and a conversion software to invert the negative. For positives (slides) a RAW image processing software is sufficient.

Which VALOI holder should I choose for my film format?

Choose the holder that matches your film format. For 35mm film, use the 35mm holder, or the 35mm Sprocket holder if you want to include the sprocket holes. For medium format, the 6x9 holder accepts all frame sizes from 6x4.5 to 6x9, but we recommend the holder that matches your frame size. Each kit’s "In the box" list shows which holders are included.

Does VALOI work with medium format film?

Yes, VALOI easy120 and studio360 both support medium format film up to 6x9. Larger formats like 6x12 or 6x17 will work but will need to be stitched digitally for the final image.

Can I scan (mounted) slide film or only negatives?

It’s possible to scan mounted slides up to 4mm thickness, each system has a holder for scanning mounted slides. Scanning strips or rolls of slide film is no different from scanning negatives.

How high is the resolution when scanning with a camera?

The resolution of the scan depends on the digital camera you use.

What software should I use to convert my negatives?

A RAW image processor like paid programs such as Adobe Lightroom, Capture One or free software like Affinity, for simple conversions. For automated conversions: standalone software like SmartConvert and FilmLab, or a plug-in like Negative Lab Pro (needs Adobe Lightroom).
